Benson is almost back
If you have enough cable channels, you can almost always find Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) on television. But for die-hard fans, it's been too long since new episodes of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit have dropped. The landmark show's 25th season was pushed back while actors and writers went on strike for fair wages, but now that the writers strike is over and the actors strike has tentatively wrapped, we can finally look ahead to the return of the longstanding Dick Wolf procedural.
Here, we break down everything we know about Law & Order: SVU Season 25 so far, including when it premieres and who will be in the newest season.
Captain Benson will be back on our TV screens in no time. NBC has released its midseason premiere calendar, and Law & Order: SVU is slated to return for Season 25 on Thursday, Jan. 18 at 9/8c. The other Law & Order series — the original series and Organized Crime — also return that night, at 8/7c and 10/9c, respectively.
Law & Order: SVU Season 25 premieres Thursday, Jan. 18 at 9/8c on NBC. Dick Wolf's shows are targeting 13 episodes for their upcoming seasons, according to TV Line.
No plot details have been released about Law & Order: SVU Season 25, so at this point, we can only speculate. The Season 24 finale was a crossover episode with Law & Order: Organized Crime. Although Benson and her former partner Elliott Stabler (Christopher Meloni) found themselves in the crosshairs, it was resolved by the end of the two hours, so there were no lingering issues at the end of the season.
Again, no details have come out about SVU Season 25, but it seems likely that the main cast will remain the same, except for Molly Burnett, who played Detective Grace Muncy. At the end of Season 24, she left SVU for a special task force. TV Line confirmed her exit as a series regular.
It's also possible that Kelli Giddish will continue to reprise her role as Amanda Rollins in a guest capacity as she did in Season 24.
All 24 seasons of Law & Order: SVU are available to stream on Hulu and Peacock with subscriptions.
